What Grainsheet reads, and what it leaves alone.
The whole method, in the order it happens: from the file on your disk to the HTML on your domain.
Nothing here is built yet. This is the plan a concept would follow.
What it reads from the file
Grainsheet opens each export and takes three measurements. The pixels are read, not rewritten.
- Dimensions in pixels, width by height
- Orientation, including the EXIF rotation flag
- The embedded ICC profile: sRGB, Adobe RGB, Display P3
How the grid is computed
Each frame gets a width proportional to its ratio and a height shared with its row, so a row of three ratios resolves to one height and three widths.
- A 3:2 next to a 4:5 next to a 1:1
- One row height, three widths, one gutter
- Rows of five or six frames on a laptop, one row that scrolls on a phone
Numbering and reordering
Every file gets a number when it arrives, in the order the folder gives them. Drag a number in front of another and the series renumbers around it.
- 01 to 16, in arrival order
- Drag 06 in front of 03
- The frames you did not move keep their order
What it generates, what it leaves alone
From your file, Grainsheet writes smaller sizes for phones and thumbnails. It stops at your export.
- Sizes generated: thumbnail, phone, tablet, laptop
- Your original, served as uploaded, at full size
- The colour profile copied over, not stripped
- No watermark and no re-encode above your quality setting
What gets published
Static HTML and the image sizes, on your own domain. The Studio plan hands you the same build as a ZIP.
- Static HTML, one page per series
- Your own domain, with its certificate
- No database, no plugins, no third-party scripts
- A ZIP of the built site on Studio
What it does not do today
Grainsheet is a concept, so the list of gaps is short and public.
- No print sales and no cart
- No plugin for Lightroom or Capture One
- Client proofing galleries are an open question, not a promise
Every step, from disk to domain.
